Unsere Forschung beschäftigt sich mit der Frage wie neue Arten - und somit biologische Vielfalt - entstehen. Im Besonderen interessieren uns die molekularen Mechanismen, die der Artbildung zu Grunde liegen. Hauptmodelle für unsere Forschung sind die vielen huderte von Arten umfassenden “Artenschwärme” von Buntbarschen in den Ostafrikanischen Seen (v.a. Tanganjika), Stichlinge und antarktische Eisfische.
