Research interests

I am a global change ecologist with a fascination for biodiversity dynamics and the processes driving these. My research aims to understand species and communities responses to global change, specifically the competition between biodiversity conservation and agriculture under climate change. By using quantitative macro- and agroecological models I develop and evaluate strategies that allow for biodiversity conservation through the establishment of protected areas and, at the same time, provide sufficient suitable land for farming in the future. How can we expand current national protection schemes to achieve biodiversity targets under climate change and where do land use conflicts with agriculture arise are among the questions I seek to give an answer to.
