Our lab commits to teaching students with a general interest in plant biology and to train the next generation of scientists. We engage in teaching classes in basic plant biology, ecology, stable isotope biogeochemistry, as well as scientific writing. We teach the Blockkurs Pflanzenbiologie in each fall semester, where students spend three weeks in our lab to learn the latest approaches in physiological plant ecology and isotope biogeochemistry in theory and practice. In addition, we commit to teaching plant biology field classes in Switzerland and abroad.

For Master Students

A special focus of our teaching commitment is on the training of master students in the master Plant Sciences. Master students in Plant Sciences have the opportunity to spend at least one year in our research group working on their own master project. It is our philosophy that during this time master students experience the various facets of science starting with the design of their project, conducting the actual experiment including the collection of data, data analyses and interpretation and ultimately the summarizing the outcome of the master project in a written thesis. Master projects are typically associated with one of our major research themes (see Research) and are designed to address relevant and timely scientific questions. The projects are designed so that their results, if successful, can be published in peer reviewed scientific journals.
